The Wild Gypsy Tour at Sturgis Motorcycle Rally
If you thought America’s wildest biker bash couldn’t get any wilder, think again. The Wild Gypsy Tour takes place August 3–7, 2018, and is a festival for women created by women—four to be exact: Harley Hooligan Racer Leticia Cline, Giselle Levy, and Kristen Lassen from Daughters of the Road, and, yours truly, Kelly Yazdi. All four women are members of the all-women’s motorcycle group The Iron Lilies.
The event organizers wanted to create a special event where women riders could be surrounded by community, a place where the unbridled gypsy sisterhood could live freely. This festival is different in the sense that it combines the freedom of the past with the untapped spirit of the future. The Wild Gypsy Tour will curate an original experience uniting women from all corners of the globe with the common desire to ride, live, learn, and have fun.
Women from all over the world will gather in the mecca for motorcyclists to launch the WGT, a historical event with live entertainment, private campgrounds, exclusive moto-related classes taught by industry experts, group rides through the landmarks of the country, and various other activities, including shooting guns on the range and racing on the flat-track. The fun will continue within the WGT walls all day and night with various activities that may include pool parties, slip and slides, and carnival games.
Beyond the means of providing an exclusive women’s event, the Wild Gypsy Tour also seeks to engage more motorcycle enthusiasts in the festivities beyond the stereotypical niches that typically saturate Sturgis. The goal is for more women to join the festivities because more women means more men, and that benefits everyone; the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and the Wild Gypsy Tour are a team collaborating to make the biggest party in America even bigger and better than ever. Even if someone has never ridden a motorcycle before, there will be plenty of shenanigans in which to partake. We hope to line the festival grounds with motorcycle enthusiasts of all types and bikes of all kinds and colors.
