Harley-Davidson’s Panhead is one of the most iconic chopper motors of all time. Made from 1948–1965, it was the chosen powerplant for many of the early chopped-up show bikes, and primarily for that reason, it’s still a popular choice among builders today. Now S&S and a few other manufacturers are still producing these, and they’re making them with higher-quality steel and in larger displacements. Does that make them better? Who’s to say—most of the people still riding these bikes probably aren’t doing so for their power and reliability.
While running around Born-Free this year with our heads on swivels, we shot a few of our favorite Panheads for you to enjoy. From chopper trikes and long bikes to classic restorations, Born-Free really does have it all.
Enjoy all of these rad Panheads and stay tuned all week for more footage from Born-Free 10!
