Harley-Davidson Flathead Goes Green

A rigid chopper, pure and simple

If you want your chopper to stand out, the simplest way to do that is through the paint job. You could also build one that people don't see to much of these days. Dynamite Joe did both. Flathead chops are unusual and the double whammy of lime green paint on one makes his even more so.

It's got an old motor but this chopper had a modern beginning. Joe bought some 1938 cases from a friend of a friend off of Instagram and sent them to Joe Lingley at Live Free or Die Choppers who built the motor from that point. “I told him to fully polish the entire thing,” Joe said. “Once I got it back, I built the whole bike around it.”

The green flake came into play once he got the bike all mocked up. Joe and John Edwards sat down to talk about the paint. John said it has to be that lime gold with flake from the ’60s. He had wanted to paint a bike that color for a long time. He didn’t want to do panels or flames, just a true ’60s flake paint job. “I’m super stoked the way it turned out,” Joe continued. “It couldn’t have without the help of all my friends who pitched in: John, Joel, my son Little Joe, Kiyo, ATR Jason Webber, Wargasser, Oliver, and Vic Acewelder. Without them it wouldn’t have come out to be this rad.”

The restoration work is so well done if you didn't know any better you might think the motor was built yesterday.

No fat back tire here. Just a skinny back wheel with a drum brake like the OG chops in the 1960s.
