H-D Readers Rides
We started the first 2017 work week with a 1962 Harley Panhead chopper because we wanted something cool for you right out the gate. Now we’re moving into a little gallery (gallerette?) of reader’s rides from the pages of Hot Bike to keep the momentum going. Hope you enjoy it.
I am sending a few pics of my 2013 Breakout. I got it stock and started to modify it the second day I had it. I did all the work myself, including installing the Big Radius 2-into-2 pipes from Vance & Hines. I also powdercoated the pipes myself and think they came out great. The front end has a 14-degree rake and 9-inch over tubes, thanks to Chopper Kits USA. I also added Buckhorn handlebars and made the seat and back sissy bar. I painted it with a House of Kolor selection of colors. It took me three months to get her back together again, and she’s a blast to ride. Finally, I added the Power Vision module to monitor my motor. I get so many nice comments on my bike everywhere I go!
My bike is a 2006 Softail Deluxe. I put a set of Vance & Hines True Duals with fishtails, K&N air filter, and a Thunder Max EFI controller. It’s not the fastest scooter on my block, but it is the second coolest.

I’m an airline pilot from Australia and fly up to two times a month to Los Angeles, where for the past year I’ve been slowly building my Sporty at Pacific Coast Cycle in Long Beach, California. Originally I asked Mike O’Brien, the owner, if I could possibly work with them, hands on, to help put together my bike. However, just as the old 883 custom was pulled down, the head mechanic, Bruce, sadly passed away, and so my bike was put on the back burner. The two remaining guys had tons of work to keep up with other customer bikes getting servicing, etc. From there on the only time my bike was touched was when I was in Los Angeles and I worked on it.
The bike started out as a pretty rundown 2001 Sporty custom. I changed the front end to a 2003 Buell XB12R inverted forks setup, got them anodized gold, with a custom top triple tree and clip-on bars. The gas tank was from a ’75 Super Glide I managed to get off eBay for $60! The rear fender I personally fabricated from a front fender that Mike had collecting dust in one of the shelves above the workshop. The seat is a custom seat from C&C seats. Rearsets from Shane at Chainsikle, air filter is a Küryakyn Velociraptor. Rear shocks are Burly Brand 13-inch stilettos, and both front and rear rotors are Galfer. Mike and I blacked out the motor. The rear wheel, air filter, triple trees, and rear swingarm were powdercoated semi-gloss and gloss black. And finally a SuperTrapp 2-into-1 exhaust completed it. Jon at Jon’s Body Shop in Long Beach did the custom paint. I wanted a throwback to the ’70s Martini Racing cars that I loved to watch when growing up.
