While women riding motorcycles is nothing new (check the the Motor Maids), there has definitely been a growing trend of women taking in interest of moving from the passenger seat to the rider seat of a motorcycle. Harley has been a major supporter of women riding their own bikes and has even established the Garage Party movement which started in 2005.
The Garage Parties are traveling events geared towards women that stop at H-D dealerships throughout the country and teach women the basics about motorcycles, safety, gear, riding, and maintenance/customization in a fun and relaxing environment. The events help women bond with other riders, bring in women interested in learning about motorcycles/riding and educate them in a setting that inspires confidence and open communication amongst their peers.
March is National Garage Party Month, and to help promote the celebration Harley is having a sweepstakes that runs March 1-31, 2010 in which one woman and three of her friends will win a a spa retreat weekend in Los Angels, learn to ride though the Riders Edge New Riders Course, and meet with TV wellness expert and motorcycle enthusiast Jillian Michaels.
Women can enter the sweepstakes by attending a Garage party event or by visiting www.h-d.com/garageparty.
