Russell Collins has been in the performance Dyna game for quite some time. The bikes he builds and rides have always been cleaner than clean and fast as hell. Follow along as Russell tells us the story of how this 2001 FXDXT came to be:

“This bike has been in between friends a few times. Originally this bike came from Aaron Guardado from Suicide Machine. He started with a stock FXDXT and did his thing to it, and, as everyone knows, the Boys from Suicide Machine Co. build fast, high-performance bikes with quality parts and good taste. When he went on to his next project he sold this bike to a guy named Josh Cappo, who owned it for a few years. Josh also did his own changes to it and was actually featured on the cover of Hot Bike mag June 2014.

“How I ended up with it was kind of weird and lucky at the same time. The bike popped up for sale in Georgia after Josh sold it to the highest bidder on eBay. Aaron Guardado saw it online and sent me the link right away. We both were confused because we didn’t even know Josh sold it. Aaron and I both knew the bike and parts it had, so we thought it was a scam. I called the guy and he explained he bought it from Josh a month ago and ended up having to sell it quick because he was moving and had some other personal problems. My first thought was he's full of shit. But I asked what he wanted for the bike, and it was too much. He ended up calling me back a few times lowering the price pretty drastically until it was a price I couldn't refuse. But I still think he’s full of it. I have a friend on the East Coast who deals with transporting vehicles, so I called him to see if he has anybody close I could pay to go see the bike. Sure enough it was the bike, so I wired the money and had it shipped back home to SoCal.

“When it arrived I tore the hole bike down and re-powdercoated the frame, swingarm, and a ton of other parts. I then sent the tins up to my man Taylor Schultz at Schultz Designz. I just told him what colors I wanted and he did his magic. Not knowing what I was dealing with, I took the safe route and went through the motor. I powdercoated everything one color and put new gaskets in it.

“Yes, the bike already had lots of nice parts, so I kept what I wanted and then sold off the rest. I changed the riser and bar setup, rebuilt the front end with a Big Al’s Cycles heavy-duty spring kit, and used a set of Top Line Tubes. I also put on a set of Metalsport seven-spoke billet wheels and sprocket. A set of Lyndall Brakes rotors were also employed. I then installed Tokico calipers and added rear 13.5-inch Race Tech reservoir shocks and a BMC Corbin seat. This bike wouldn't be what it is without the help of my friends, especially Taylor Schultz. His amazing artist skills on my paint truly make this bike stand out. Also Matt Cortez for always helping me and letting me use his shop and tools along with Big Al’s Cycles, Speed Merchant, Brawny Built, Suicide Machine Co., Top Line Tubes, and Matt Cortez Cycles for helping me out with the best parts in the industry. Thanks, y’all!”
