AMA Pro Flat Track // Lone Star Half Mile
The racing action from the inaugural Harley-Davidson Lone Star Half-Mile at Circuit of The Americas was a good ol’ flat track shootout.
The evening started off with some great battles in the heat races with Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle Factory Team rider Brad Baker looking like the fastest man of the entire field and a force to be reckoned with come time for the main event.
2015 GNC2 Champion and 2016 GNC1 rookie Davis Fisher debuted the “Next Generation” Harley-Davidson Flat Track Race Bike. The bike is XG750 (Street 750) engine based and an exciting new chapter in H-D flat track history. Looking all business, and bad-ass might we add, in it’s blacked out livery it was very fast and competitive out on the Lone Star Half Mile circuit. Davis just missed out by making the GNC1 Main by one position but definitely served notice that the future is here and is just getting started. Be on the lookout for Davis and the Next Generation Flat Track Bike throughout the rest of the 2016 AMA Pro Flat Track Series.
The Main Event started off with Brad Baker leading the charge for 7 laps and opening up a gap on the rest of the field until a mechanical forced him out of the race. A bummer for Brad as he was the man to beat that night and looked like a shoo-in for the win.
Current National Champion Jared Mees battled with eventual 2nd place finisher Robert Pearson for a few laps before working his way into the lead where he put the throttle to the stops and opened up a nice comfortable cushion between himself and the rest of the podium. It was Pearson’s best finish of his career and also his first podium so you know he was a happy man.
Slammin’ Sammy Halbert had a hell of ride as he rode like a man possessed and sliced and diced his way through the pack from a bad start. He had a couple “Oh Sh*t” moments on the entrance to turn 3 like everybody else did do to a sizeable and challenging hole. Had Sammy gotten a better start, he might have been able to challenge Mees for the “W”. That’s racing though, there’s always another one to prove one’s self.
