2006 Harely-Davidson Heritage Softail And More
Attention Hot Bike Readers
We would like to start by asking you, the reader, to help us with your ride submissions. There is no shortage of Readers’ Rides coming across the editor’s desks; however, only about 1/4 of them can be used. The reason: bad photos, little or no info about the bike, and even worse, no contact info to get better photos or the needed bike specs. So before you put a stamp on that envelope or send out that e-mail, make sure that you have filled out the basics: Your name, phone number and/or e-mail, where you’re from. Then fill out a spec sheet-all you need to do is copy the info from the magazine: Motor, tran, frame, wheels, and so on. Last, a brief history about you and your bike. Now that you know exactly what we’re looking for, we can’t wait to see what you’re going to send in. Thanks!
Everyday Everywhere Rider
Garry Magness picked up this 2006 Heritage Softail to get back and forth to work everyday, but soon found himself riding the bike everywhere. Ask Garry to run to the store to pick something up, he jumps on his bike. Even though the store is less than a few miles away, it may take him over an hour just to get some milk. Hope the kids aren’t waiting with cookies.

Black and White
After reading the Vol. 40, No. 8 “Blackout” issue and the story “Once You Go Black” about blacking out a Night Train, Luis Cialdella wanted to share his idea about “Black (and White).” He purchased this bike a year ago and immediately started to change it; his interpretation of contrasting black and white started with the black fork boots, then the Fat Boy lamp, and the 32 other H-D accessories followed. He said he’s not done and is waiting to see what we do next to give him a few more ideas. I guess the pressure is on for us here at HOT BIKE; it’s good thing we have more tech for that bike on the way.

Show And Go
After taking a ride on a friend’s custom Softail, Virgil Fuller made up his mind to sell his Yamaha 750 and purchase a Harley. Virgil stopped at every H-D shop he knew of looking for the best deal on a used bike. It paid off when he came across this 2001 Fat Boy with a few engine modifications. But the deal got better once he found out that it pushed over 105 horsepower. Virgil soon added wheels, paint, and chrome. Now he has the bike of his dreams with lots of show and go.

Big Red
Janice Carr-Yanich had always seen her dad on old Harleys as a kid and vowed someday that she would have her very own. In August of 2003, her dream became a reality when she finally purchased a Dyna Low Rider. Back then it was a stock blue bike, but like most H-D owners, it didn’t take long for Janice to start customizing it. Three years later, this is what the bike has: a 200mm rear tire, drag bars, Mustang seat, fabulous paint job, and lots of chrome.

Why Buy New?
While deployed in Afghanistan, Paul Highland was thinking about selling his ’99 Night Train and getting a new bike. When he had any free time, Paul was reading HOT BIKE, looking for a style of bike he liked. With over a year of time on his hands, the more he looked, the more he got an idea for what he wanted. When Paul was back in the States and home, he made up his mind to do a makeover on his ride. After some time with the wife, he was on a new mission and could be found in the garage at all hours of the night. A few months later, this is what you see. We just wish we could have seen a before shot, but nonetheless, the bike looks good.

My Glide
Bill Middleton has had a few Harleys in the past, but this one is the bike of all bikes, he said. The motorcycle used to be owned by his father-in-law, and when he decided to sell it, Bill was there to buy it. Once he bought the bike, he started adding things, and little by little he finally had the bike for him. Bill swapped out the cams and added a gear drive, had the inner fairing painted, took out the H-D stock radio and put in a CD player and new speakers. He also found the D&D; 2-into-1 and was happy with the sound and power. Bill also added more chrome, put a lowering kit on the rear, and went with spoke wheels. Too bad, Dad…it’s mine now!

“SoSik” So Sick
Joe Renye purchased this bike in 2005 after celebrating five years of sober living. What better way to spend the money, he thought, than to buy a motorcycle? Once he got the bike, Joe wanted to chrome out a few things. He started to pull a few parts and do the work himself but soon after started to feel like crap. Turns out he was diagnosed with lung cancer, but the idea of getting the bike back on the road was just what he needed to keep him going. With treatment and the love of his bike, he is now cancer-free and riding with a license plate that reads “SoSik.”

Three Weeks Away
Raymond Eyles was away from home working overseas when he got a call from a friend that the bike he was looking for just showed up at his local dealership. Raymond had been looking for a Limited Edition 2007 FXDL; he knew that it would sell fast and he was still three weeks out. So he contacted the shop and spoke with the owner’s daughter. After a lengthy conversation, Raymond gave her a deposit over the phone and asked if they could hold it for three more weeks. The good thing was Raymond took advantage of the time by having all the upgrade work done so that as soon as he got home, all he needed to do was pick it up and ride.
