Hot Bike's April 72 cover scoot

Drag racer Jim Cibel's purple top fuel machine graced our cover back in April of 1972. Displacements were much lower back then as evidenced by Jim's motor being a 100-inch Shovelhead; that's slightly smaller than the stockers you can buy off the showroom floor right now. Having said that, Cibel's motorcycle is seriously stripped down for real-deal professional drag racing. The S&S carb and crankshaft aren't stock items no matter what year it is!

Dubbed "Precision in Purple," Cibel's rocket ship had Ceriani forks.

It doesn't get much more stripped down than a top fuel drag bike.

Just look at how tiny that gas tank is. Weight is the last thing you want when you're running this kind of bike.
