Colorado Custom Wheel Upgrade

01. For the Deuce we ordered a 21x3.25 up front and an 18x5.5 in the rear. As with all the different wheel models Colorado Custom offers, matching rotors ($275 each) and pulley ($450) are also available and were installed for a more uniform look. To get the wheels rolling down the road, a set of Avon’s Cobra tires were used for this project, a 120/70-21 up front, and a 180/55-18 in the rear. The Cobras are geared for the cruiser/touring market and incorporate a sport tire technology for nimble handling. They’re constructed to handle heavier loads and are also available in larger sizes to fit the big wheels that today’s customizers are looking for.

In the never-ending quest for the right motorcycle wheels for your ride, there are a wide variety of custom billet wheel manufacturers out there to choose from. Colorado Custom in Anaheim, California, has a massive collection of forged billet aluminum one-piece and multi-piece wheels for all Harley models and custom applications ranging in size from 16 to 30 inches. Of course matching rotors, sprockets, and pulleys are all available to round out the installation package and wheels are available in chrome, or black and chrome.

Colorado Custom opened its doors in 1994 in Fort Collins, Colorado. The company manufactured custom billet wheels for the automotive and motorcycle industries, but years later, would pack up and move to Anaheim to manufacture its wheels. However, the company went up for sale in 2008 and Marc Susman took over the brand. We contacted Colorado Custom for a set of its new Colorado line of wheels (front $1,195, rear $1,195) for an ’06 Softail Deuce that was begging to be spruced up. Since the company is in our backyard, we headed over there and Marc gave us a tour of the facility and installed the new Colorados on the Deuce for us. HB

07. Marc reattached the caliper and placed the new wheel spacers in between the swingarm and the wheels.

08. After sliding the drivebelt over the new pulley, Marc lubed up the axle with anti-seize and replaced it. Once that was done, he adjusted the axle so that the wheel lined up accurately. To finish up the rear, Marc re-installed the belt guard and the rear wheel installation was complete.
