01. The DCC fairing comes nearly completely assembled; the only thing that needs to be installed is the windscreen. The fairing is compatible with H-D windscreens and fairing accessories such as wind deflectors, windshield bags, and outer fairing bras. Here you can see the smooth, black, gel-coat finish. Dead Center says one of the benefits of the TRM process is a consistent thickness and smooth edges, which allow for tighter tolerances between its inner/outer fairings and a solid seal between the two.

One of our friends, Disco (not his birth name), purchased an ’11 Heritage Softail Classic as soon as it hit the floor of his local dealership. Unlike most new Harley owners whose first part/accessory purchase is new pipes, Disco went strait for tunes—the nickname kind of explains itself now, right? He outfitted his Heritage with one of H-D’s Boom Audio setups with 3.5-inch handlebar-mounted speakers.

While the Boom Audio system helped Disco get through long road trips, he just wasn’t completely satisfied; he wanted more—more volume and more protection from the wind than what his quick-detach windscreen provided. The obvious solution was a quick-detach fairing/stereo unit. When Disco asked our opinion about the Dead Center Cycles fairings, we admitted we hadn’t had much hands-on experience with them but we had seen/heard them at various shows and events and on several readers bikes. They appeared to be of quality construction and produced great sound.

02. On the inside of the fairing there is ample space above the head unit if you wanted to install additional gauges on your bike. The standard Polk 6-1/2-inch speakers feature 3/4-inch composite dome tweeters and offer 60-watt continuous sound and 180-watt peak power-handling capability. To provide the stereo with extra protection from the elements, a tinted, retractable cover is also included.

Dead Center Quick Detach Fairing Stainless Mirror Polished Mounts
03. The fairing comes with stainless, mirror-polished mounts that allow you to simply slide the fairing on and off the stock windshield mounts with no tools required. The left side has a spring-loaded locking tab and keyed lock so you can lock the fairing in place. There’s simply one plug (arrow) coming off the back of the stereo that needs to be run to the accessory outlet.

Made of lightweight fiberglass, the DCC fairings are comprised of a light Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) process. RTM is a process in which catalyzed resin is transferred or injected into an enclosed mold where fiberglass reinforcement has to be placed. The resin is pushed in under pressure which helps push out air bubbles resulting in smoother more consistent parts. The DCC fairings fit various ’04-later Road King models and ’00-later Twin Cam Softail models with FL frontends. The fairings come standard with stainless steel-mounting brackets, keyed lock on the left side, a Sony CDX-540UI head unit, Polk Audio Marine certified 6-1/2-inch speakers, and a gloss-black gel-coat finish that doesn’t require paint. DCC offers a limited lifetime warranty on its parts, and supports Sony and Polk’s one-year warranty. DCC also offers many options/upgrades such as color-matched paint and speaker and stereo upgrades, such as Sirius/XM satellite radio.

After reading through DCC’s extensive website Disco ordered a standard fairing/stereo setup ($1,699) in gloss-black gel coat. Follow along as we watch Anaheim-Fullerton service tech Kevin install the fairing on Disco’s bike. HB
