The jewel is seated in a fixed position just above the mixing tube with an abrasive inlet between the two. As the pressurized water passes through the jewel orifice it creates a vacuum effect that sucks the sand in and mixes it into the water. The sand/water mixture then exits the mixing tube as a precise stream.
