Daytona Bike Week is the kickoff event in which the East Coast bike scene wakes up from its long winter hibernation, wipes the crusties from its eyes and the drool from its chin, takes a big swig of 20W-50 to clean out the yuk mouth, and hits the street eager to ride and party.

Back in 1947, a group of motorcyclists assembled and took over the small town of Hollister in Northern California. This assembly and the havoc that was wreaked there is what some people would say became the startup and birthplace of the American Biker Rally. It started out as a trip to the races and hill climbing events over the 4th of July weekend called the Gypsy Tour. It attracted motorcyclists from California, Arizona, and Oregon. From then on, everyone in the motorcycle community wanted to head to Hollister on the 4th of July to see what would happen at the races. It became what is now known as the Hollister Independence Rally. Over 60 years later, it still has the same pulling power, bringing bikers from all across the country.

Every year around February, motorcycle manufacturers, retailers, and members of the press converge in the heart of Cincinnati to attend the V-Twin Expo. With the exception of our executive editor Eric, the rest of the HOT BIKE editors were newbies to the eighth annual exhibition, which took place February 2-4, 2008, at the Duke Energy Convention Center. In fact, our SoCal office was practically deserted as we hit the red carpet aisles of the Expo to see what's coming down the pipeline for 2008

So you've done the typical biker rallies-the Daytonas, Myrtle, and maybe even Sturgis-and now you're looking for something different, something motorcycle related but out of the ordinary, a change of scenery. Such was the case for Dean and Debbie Anderson, founders of the Hogs on the High Seas Rally (HOHS). The Andersons had been to a bunch of rallies, and were burned out on the "typical" motorcycle rally. Then, while hiding from the rain at a rally, the thought came to Dean: "Why not have a rally on a cruise ship, traveling to lush, tropical locations?" And since the first Western Caribbean Rally back in 2003, the HOHS rally has become one of the top 10 motorcycle events in the U.S., ranking right up there with Daytona and Sturgis.

It is a season that begins in Gainesville, Florida, in the first week of March, and zigzags its way back and forth across the country like a snake on acid, ending in Las Vegas in mid-November.

Featuring Traveling Museum Creates Holiday Cheer
On the weekend of December 15, 2007, when many folks rushed to stores for holiday shopping, thousands of riders rushed to Anaheim-Fullerton Harley-Davidson to partake in the dealership's once-in-a-lifetime combo event featuring a particular legend on 18 wheels. That's right, every year the Harley-Davidson Traveling Museum rolls across the country and stops with its historic cargo at select dealerships, with one of them last year being the Fullerton, California-based dealer. As mentioned, the event offered motorcycle enthusiasts multiple attractions aside from the Traveling Museum.

What one word can sum up Sin City? Gluttony. Whether it's the craps tables, strip clubs, or massive buffets that keep the masses returning to the city that never sleeps, we at HOT BIKE like to venture to Las Vegas for another reason: Las Vegas BikeFest, which took place September 27-30, 2007. We are gluttons for bikes, babes, cool new parts, and babes! This year didn't disappoint in the least as we walked the grounds with the rest of the 34,000 attendees at the Cash man Center to check out what the 300-plus vendors have been up to. We made the rounds on Fremont Street to check out the diversity of bikes on display, partied with El Pitts and his crew from Vegas City Choppers (thanks for having us at the Voodoo Lounge party, guys!), hung out with Big Mike from BMC Choppers, and lost all of our money at the blackjack tables (actually, that part kind of sucked).
