Tail Bone Mechanic's Seat
What better way to save your back when messing, cleaning, or working on your American V-twin than using a completely American-made mechanic's seat? From the engineering-grade polypropylene copolymer seat/base to the specifically designed casters, to the fastening hardware-even the decal on the seat-the Dale Adams Enterprises Tail Bone is American-made.
The unique tripod design has a broad footprint that provides a sturdy base as you roll around, but not so wide that it interrupts your feet as you try to scoot from place to place. The Tail Bone features large 5-inch diameter wheels, and the base and seat are secured together which means the whole thing spins with your body so that the legs are always in the same spot. The wide tractor-style seat provides adequate sitting space and is shaped to allow for a comfortable seating position.
We found the Tail Bone easy to maneuver, capable of rolling over air hoses with the confidence of not folding over, and with its sweeping lines, it's reminiscent of an old Indian. When leaning over the raised center section of the tractor-style seat some thought it was a little cramping on the family jewels, but when sitting straight up it was comfortable and provided good back support. The unit as a whole is pretty big, especially when compared to most mechanics seats, but then most don't provide the sturdiness or roll-over capabilities as the Tail Bone. While the Tail Bone may be a little pricey (MSRP $139.95), it's made of quality components and much sturdier than other mechanics sets/stools we've used, and while searching online we've found it for sale at places like Sears and Amazon from anywhere between $109-119.
