Interrogation: The Rusty Butcher
Describe yourself in three words.
Hell yeah, dude!
What are you currently building?
Right now I am currently working on a FXRP I picked up off Craigslist for way too cheap. I will be making it a full-fairing bike and probably beating it to hell soon after it’s finished!
What was your first bike?
My first Harley was a 1976 Ironhead that ran terrible all the time, but at least it looked good.
What is your all-time favorite bike?
My all-time favorite bike right now is my “jump” Sporty. Just got some fresh new Öhlins 43mm forks and some 970 Progressive piggyback shocks, and it’s ready to soar through the air! That bike is by far the most fun to ride! Building bikes that can take anything you throw at them is kinda my specialty.
Why did you choose to work in the motorcycle industry?
I didn’t really choose to. I just started farting around one day on my bike and jumping the Sporty, which later led into me racing flat track on Sportsters and all around doing stuff that wasn’t supposed to be normally done on a Harley.
What do you think the future of the motorcycle industry is?
I think wheelies will be legalized and the government will give us all tax cuts if you can scrape your fender. It should be awesome.
What is your greatest life achievement so far?
My greatest motorcycle achievement would probably be the time I jumped over a freeway on-ramp on a Sportster. I have always wanted to do that as a kid and finally got enough balls to try it!
What has been your biggest regret to date?
Letting the snakes in too close.
What inspires you?
Honestly everything does. I like to do what’s not normally supposed to be done on my bikes and love when people do the same. I would say watching Robbie Maddison would be one or the Nitro Circus dudes.
Who are your three all-time favorite bike builders?
Steve Blalock, Cory Rushford, and Ryan Grossman.
Any last words?
Honestly just want to say thank you to everyone who helps me or supports me by buying some Rusty Butcher merch. It’s because of those guys that I get to mess around all day, and for that I am forever grateful. I hope in the future I’ll be doing stuff to still make everyone’s heads spin.
