Softails In Action
Chances are, nine times out of 10 when you ask a motorcycle enthusiast about his/her earliest memories on gas powered two wheelers they'll tell you they cut their teeth on a beat up Cushman scooter, or some kind of homemade contraption powered by mom's old washing machine engine. Dig even further and you'll find other similarities like stories of ripping up the dirt at the local vacant lot around the corner and building "death defying" jumps out of a piece of plywood and some blocks of wood. For some of the less fortunate-or "daredevils" if you will- that story of cutting teeth may even lead to another story about broken teeth and a mouth full of dirt. But basically the sentiment is the same; it was all about having fun, pushing your limits and getting dirty on two wheels.
Sure there's a lot of fun to be had bombing down the highway on your Harley, but just because you're on a 600-plus pound V-Twin, who says you can't get back to your roots and take it to the dirt? OK, maybe trying to rooster your 2010 Ultra out of a deep rutted berm isn't the smartest or safest idea. Obviously we know the Sporty-specifically the XR models have dirt coursing through their lines, but what about Dynas or even Softails?
Well, that's what Roland Sands of RSD and his cohort Rodney Aguiar wanted to find out when they decided to take their two Softails to the local dirt lot and have some fun. We're just glad photographer Matt Wignall was on hand to catch all the dirty action.
