Adam Hiler Drew up this rendering of the customized Victory Cross Roads to help inspire the Klock Werks team.
It Didn’t Take long before the Klock Werks team started tearing into the bone stock bike.
The Stock License plate mount area on the rear fender didn’t flow with the smoothed-out look that the Klock team wanted, so they decided to fill the space in. A template was made out of a thick piece of paper.
The Design Of the template was then transferred to a piece of sheetmetal and then after some cutting, grinding, and welding…
No More Skin, just the bones of the Cross Roads.
The Hole Where the license plate once resided was gone.
Smitty’s Custom Paint was in charge of laying down the Platinum Frost Pearl basecoat on the fenders, tank, and side covers.
The Winner Will literally be able to rock and roll as they will receive a customized Epiphone “Les Paul” signature series guitar painted to match his new bike.
Before It Could be painted the guitar had to be stripped and gutted.
Klock Werks’ NewKlip-Hangers handlebars will provide plenty of adjustability for the winner to get comfortable on his new bike.
The Kicker Klamp is a handlebar riser clamp with a Kicker iPod control pad incorporated into it, allowing the rider to easily DJ as he rolls down the road.
Buffalo Chip Owner Rod Woodruff aboard the custom Victory the Klock Werks team built for last year’s Sturgis Rider Sweepstakes. Rod had a hard time giving up the keys to the winner, Daryl “Bulldog” Blackley, from Obion, Tennessee. Maybe you’ll be this year’s lucky winner?
The Sturgis Buffalo Chip, the legendary camping resort and entertainment capital of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally has once again partnered with Victory Motorcycles and Epiphone guitars for the 2012 Sturgis Rider Sweepstakes. One lucky Buffalo Chip visitor will take home a newly customized Victory Cross Roads motorcycle and matching Epiphone Les Paul Studio guitar. The winner will be announced live on the Buffalo Chip main concert stage during the rally on Friday, August 10, 2012 prior to the headlining concert. If you want to throw your name into the hat to possibly win this one-of-a-kind prize package that combines the world of music and motorcycling, Sturgis Rider Sweepstakes registrations may now be entered at buffalochip.com.
“The Buffalo Chip has the most passionate and loyal motorcycle riders in the world. The Sturgis Rider Sweepstakes is just one of many ways to thank all the fans and supporters,” said Rod Woodruff, owner of the Sturgis Buffalo Chip. “Last year’s sweepstakes was a roaring success and we can’t wait to see a fan walk away with this year’s one-of-a-kind bike and guitar. The Chip family grows each year and having partners like Victory, Klock Werks, and Epiphone to help throw the best party anywhere keeps the Buffalo Chip atop the list of biker destinations.”
“Our crown jewel summer event is the Sturgis Rally for sure,” said Steve Menneto of Victory Motorcycles. “We are pulling out all of the stops for 2012 and are happy to be part of the build again this year. I’m sure the Klock Werks team and the Buffalo Chip will up the ante over last year and we are looking forward to riding with Victory fans again.”
Last year’s sweepstakes was a roaring success and we can’t wait to see a fan walk away with this year’s one-of-a-kind bike and guitar.
Nestled into the home state of the Sturgis Rally in Mitchell, Brian and Laura Klock and the rest of the Klock Werks team have been working around the clock to transform a once stock 2010 Victory Cross Roads into a customized touring machine ready to tackle the Sturgis back roads and beyond. The Victory Cross Roads is the ideal platform for customizing with its great ride-ability, factory-direct good looks, cast-aluminum frame, and 106ci engine; the Klock team has been having a blast turning the Victory and Epiphone guitar into real one-of-a-kind customs. While he’s somewhat of a private guy when it comes to his bike projects, Brian was kind enough to let us get a quick peak into some of the customizations/modifications they have been/will be doing.
To help keep the team on task and give them a visual goal to shoot for, Brian directed Adam Hiler from Minneapolis to draw up a rendering of his vision for the completed bike. If there was one overall styling element Brian wanted for this bike, it was to have a classic look. As you can see from the rendering, he plans to achieve that with a set of Victory’s leather saddlebags.
As soon as the bike arrived at the Klock Werks shop, the first order of business was to begin removing pieces of the sheetmetal for modification. They decided to clean up the rear fender by removing the license plate and smoothing the rear fender. Since the stylish rear brake light comes flush-mounted into the fender, it was just a matter of filling in the area where the license mount resided. The team found that there was plenty of space inside the backside of the fender, so they decided to use a Bad Dad retractable plate mount to tuck the plate between the inside of the fender and the rear tire. This will give the bike sort of a James Bond effect as the plate can be automatically hidden from view when so desired.
Up front the team has plans to install one of its new Tude style Hugger fenders secured in place by a set of its new fender mounting blocks. The fender will snugly fit over a 21-inch Renegade Wheels Racine Phantom-Cut front wheel with matching rotors and Metzeler ME880 front tire. The backside will carry a matching 16-inch Renegade wheel and Metzeler tire as well.
Another new Klock Werks component that this bike will feature is the shop’s multi-adjustable Klip-Hangers Handlebars. The bars feature classic Ape style rise with sport bike style clip-ons for the hand controls and grips. A Kicker Klamp riser piece that incorporates the new Kicker Audio iPod controller will keep the bars secured in place while giving the bike’s new owner total control over the audio system. The team plans to install two 5-1/4-inch speakers and an amp into the front area of the spacious leather saddlebags. Floorboards, pegs, and other accessories will come from the likes of Rick Fairless, Kewl Metal, and Ness along with factory Victory custom pieces as well.
The bike’s sheetmetal will showcase a silver PPG Platinum basecoat sprayed by Brad Smith of Smitty’s Custom Paint in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Darren Wenzel of Gasoline Art in Austin, Texas, was chosen to spray the ultimate custom airbrush mix of Rockabilly, Western, and Hot Rod inspired artwork as a nod to the vast array of music and motorcycles that roll through the Chip every year. The Epiphone “Les Paul” signature series guitar will be painted platinum and airbrushed to match the bike as well.
And the final piece to the Victory Cross Roads pie will be a custom engraved seat and saddlebags by Duane Ballard of DB Leather in Lake Elsinore, California. With the natural beautiful rolling hills and open field landscape surrounding the Buffalo Chip, the bike has befittingly been dubbed Kountry Wild. It’s safe to say the bike’s new owner (possibly you) will enjoy getting wild on his/her freshly customized Victory as he/she blasts through the Sturgis countryside. You can see more on the Kountry Wild bike and register to win it by entering the Sturgis Rider Sweeps at buffalochip.com.
